LOCAL MEMORY
In 1925, Robert Benner Küstner traveled from the outskirts of Stuttgart to settle in southern Chile at the age of 21. He actively contributed to the region’s economic development, engaging in commerce and working the lands he acquired in 1950. Robert dedicated himself to restoring fields devastated by the 1949 Villarrica volcano eruption, eventually turning them into a place of rest and enjoyment for his family. This memory of tranquility is what the Aguilera-Benner family sought to preserve amid the region’s rapid growth driven by tourism. It would be his granddaughter, Edith Aguilera Benner, together with her family and siblings, who would strive to revive and share this unique perspective of southern Chile’s inhabitants, offering it to visitors as a way to honor and preserve the memory of those who came before.
En el año 1925 Robert Benner Küstner Viajaría desde los alrededores Stuttgart para instalarse en el sur de Chile a la edad de 21 años. De manera activa colaboraría en el desarrollo económico de la región, dedicándose al comercio y trabajando en los campos que adquirió en el año 50. Robert se dedicó a recuperar los campos devastados por la erupción del volcán Villarrica del año 1949, para luego con su familia disfrutar de ellos y poder descansar. Este recuerdo de tranquilidad sería el que la familia Aguilera-Benner buscaría preservar ante el agitado crecimiento que estaba teniendo la región producto de sus atractivos turísticos. Sería su nieta Edith Aguilera Benner en conjunto a su familia y sus hermanos quién buscaría traer de vuelta y dar a conocer esta particular visión de los habitantes del sur de Chile para poder compartirla con las personas que vienen a visitar y así conservar la memoria de sus pobladores.
